It is with regret that the PLCSA is announcing that we have made the extremely difficult decision to not proceed with the 2016 Lake and Shore Days festival, due to take place August 8-14 this year .
While it is a wonderful opportunity for community members of all ages to come together,in the past 5 years the event has cost the PLCSA money that it cannot afford to spend .
The event budget is upwards of $30000 and half of that comes from sponsorship and fundraising on top of what the PLCSA raises to maintain the Community Centre at a cost of close to $70,000 each year . With the current economic downturn, asking surrounding businesses to contribute financially when they are already experiencing difficulties would just add strain to already tight budgets. Many other local organizations, clubs and sports require sponsorships as well, and money is tight all around. Without sponsorship, our event cannot happen .
Also, the same few volunteers (10) who operate and maintain the Porters Lake Community Centre are also organizing and coordinating Lake and Shore Days every year ,which takes 100′s of extra volunteer hours over many months . Many of these volunteers have other commitments this year and while the call and response for volunteers during the week of the event has always been great, getting extra volunteers for the planning stages has not been as favorable.
We hate to see this event not happen , however, we are hopeful that the community will understand. This decision was not made lightly and we hope to recruit new volunteers in the coming year who are willing to work on just the Lake and Shore Event for 2017.
The A Shore Thing Fun Run will still happen this year with the date scheduled to be Saturday August 13. For more info regarding the run please visit our Facebook page:
