Lake ‘n’ Shore Days 2015 “A Night at the Movies”


The theme this year is “A Night at the Movies“ Volunteers are needed to make these days in August a great time for everyone in the Porters Lake area.
Some of the great events that will be taking place around the Community are:

Sunday Aug 2nd

Seniors Afternoon at the PLCSA 12 Noon -3 pm - Hosted by the Porters Lake Seniors Association. - Music provided FREE by seniors just jamming with friends from 1 PM to 3 PM. BBQ from noon to 3 PM serving hot dogs and hamburgers with drinks at reasonable prices. Come in for an afternoon of socializing, card games, and relaxationBBQ at noon followed by an afternoon of FREE live entertainment.

Monday Aug 3th-

A Shore Thing Fun Run- 5K walk/run @9 am   1K Kids run/walk@ 10 am. A fun family/all ages event held on the flat Blueberry Run trail in Porters Lake.Everyone gets a medal. For more information contact Shelley Leverman-Peddle or Jill Kirby- Latta .Register online until July 27 at

Friday Aug 7-

1pm-4 pm – HRM Try A Ride at Porter Lake Community Center Basketball Court
Try out Skateboarding – Scootering – Bicycling
Try-A-Ride is a free program for all ages that travels throughout the region of Halifax.
We bring bikes, skateboards and scooters to teach people how to safely ride and maintain the equipment, as well as link residents to resources and other opportunities within their community. For more information, contact or 902-490-4828.

7pm-11 pm PLCSA presents Family Movie Night under the Big Tent- double feature with concessions.Doors open at 6:30.First movie 7pm- the Lego Movie. 2nd movie@ 9pm-Guardians of the Galaxy . Concessions $1-$2. Adults $5 , children 12 and under $3 cost will be the same whether you stay for both movies , leave after the first or just come for the 2nd

Saturday Aug 8

8:30-10:30 am Pancake & Sausage Breakfast- put on by Orenda Canoe Club. Age 10 and under $5, Adults-$8- Porters Lake Community Center

11:00 am -PLCSA presents the Lake n Shore Days Parade parade will go through the #7 Highway from Stella Drive (Superstore) to Keizer Rd ( Post Office). The Parade will commence at 11:00 and end at approximately 1:00 pm. Please expect delays if you plan on traveling that route on that day during those times. We will commence closing down entries/exits to the highway(Exits 19 &20) and all side streets along the route 15 minutes prior to the Parade. If you are interested in putiing a float or Parade Entry please contact  Laura at 827-5310.

1pm-3pmPLCSA presents the Lake and Shore Family  Fair – face painting, BBQ presented by Dominion Diving ,games with prizes  ,bouncy ride,cotton candy, popcorn and ice cream – some activities/food will cost…most are FREE. Our FROZEN friends Elsa and Ana will be dropping in for a visit from 1:30-2:30! The Shore Active Transportation Association will be hosting a Parents vs Kids Bicycle Rodeo after the parade and during the Fair in the tennis court area. Will experience or youth rule? A fun way to test your bicycle agility, knowledge and skills! Bring your bike and helmet!

9pm-1am Ryzer Fabrication presents the Lake and Shore Beer Tent with “Hawco”$15–Porters Lake Community Center For Tickets call Susan @ 827-4420. This event sells out fast –get your tickets early!.Early Bird special – tickets bought before July 29 -$10 .All tickets must be purchased/picked up by July 29.

Sunday Aug 10-

2pm-4pm Nature Ridge Homes presents the Lake and Shore Teddy Bear Picnic –lots of fun activities for children ages 2-4,bring your favorite Teddy for a  good time! FREE. Contact Monica@ 827-4828 for more info


8:30 pm Parade of Lights – cFREE to enter. Registration @ Ciceros @7:30 mandatory for prizes or trophy.
Approx 9:30 pm-  Lake N Shore Fireworks over Sandy Point
